The Virtuous Woman

Updated: Jul 11, 2022

Word of the Day: Virtuous

Conforming to moral and ethical principles; morally excellent; upright.

In this post, we will talk about this lady who the Lord describes as a godly wife and mother. Her portrait is what the Lord wants in our lives, and it is not my intention for anyone to feel bad because you don't meet all of these characteristics but to encourage you to follow her steps. This lady represents perfection, and we are far from being there, but we can always try to mimic her and be determined to live a victorious life in Christ. The Virtuous Woman represents an acrostic of the Hebrew alphabet. Some Jewish sing the Eshet Hayil at the beginning of the Shabbat evening meal to honor their mother for the meals she has prepared for the Sabbath.

I have never been jealous of another lady's home, clothing, etc. All the honor and glory goes to the Lord, but I can honestly tell you that I am jealous of this lady, the Virtuous woman. It is hard to be like her; she is just so perfect, and those are the things that I want or covet for my life.

Let's find out what the Lord is telling us through the description of this beautiful lady. We will visit verse by verse to get the most of it and implement it in our lives.

Proverbs: 31:10–31

A. Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

She is rare; this is a woman of courage in Hebrew Eshet Hayil, meaning she is priceless.

B. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

Trustworthy, she inspires confidence; her husband knows that he can count on her no matter what, and she would never let him down.

C. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

Her constant love for her husband does not seek revenge when she does not get her way. The word divorce does not exist in her vocabulary, and she is not a feminist.

D. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

She is industrious, always finding something to do, being diligent with her time. Enjoys quilting, sewing, or knitting, among other things.

E. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

Thrifty, she goes to the ports to get the best deal, cooks the best meals, and makes sure her family is well-fed.

F. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

Self-starting, she gets up early when dark to prepare breakfast for her family and her servants.

G. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

Enterprising, ready to undertake projects, doesn't complain about the life changes. She carries business knowledge to evaluate a property and purchase it.

H. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

Willing to do the hard work, taking the initiative, and not being afraid of physical work.

I. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

She works long hours, and she probably has a planner to write the following day's chores.

K. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

Willing to do the monotonous work, not tired of repeating the same steps the next day.

L. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

Compassionate, always willing to help others in her community.

M. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

She is well prepared for the future, she has different sheets according to the weather, and her kids have suitable garments for the different climates.

N. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

A good seamstress, this lady has many skills.

O. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

She is married to a leader, and there's a great woman behind every great man.

P. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

An entrepreneur, once again, she is a businesswoman.

R. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

She is prepared for the future no matter the circumstances and does not complain.

S. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

She is wise and kind, and it's a joy to have a conversation with her; she ignores gossip.

T.She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

Duty-conscious does not waste her time, recognizes her domestic responsibilities, and her husband does not come home to finish her chores.

U. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

Blessed by her family, her house is where to come to rest after a long day.

W. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

She is the best, she is our model, and we should have the desire to be like her.

Y. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

Not focused on the trends of the world; instead, she focuses on pleasing the Lord and her family.

Z. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Praiseworthy, well done, is what the Lord says about her.

Conclusion: This woman had different skills, but, most importantly, she took advantage of them to glorify the Lord and her family. A Virtuous Woman is a woman who prays, serves others, loves, and obeys.
